Commissioner Bonilla Secures Funding for Multiple District 5 Initiatives

We approved this upcoming year’s budget on 09/19/19. Here are some of the Capital Improvements Projects I was able to secure in our funding.

  • Another $20 million for Children Services. This is the second budget since we implemented this annual budget increase.
  • Expansions to the Bithlo Community Center (new gym and multi-purpose space) – $594,000.
  • Three emergency generators, for the Bithlo Community Center, – $75,082, for the Bithlo Water Treatment Plant Emergency Center – $75,082, and for the Goldenrod Recreation Center – $62,603. (This will help if we ever lose power again for an extended time due to a major storm)
  • Blanchard Park Parking improvements – $2,000,000.
  • Little Econ Greenway Bridge Repair – $880,000.
  • Capital improvements to Orange County Regional History Center – $2,000,000.
  • Continued Investments in Richard Crotty Parkway – $2,500,000 (Connecting Dean Rd. to 436)
  • Investments in McCulloch Rd. – $275,280 (Near UCF) and Chuluota Road – $174,273.
  • Continued Area Pedestrian Safety Improvements to UCF Area – Total last year and this year $414,628.
  • Nearly half a million dollars to start improvements for bicycle and pedestrian sidewalk along University Blvd. – $450,000. 

A motion was made by Commissioner Uribe, seconded by Commissioner Moore, to adopt Resolution 2019-M-41, adopting the County budget. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 6 – Mayor Demings, Commissioner Moore, Commissioner Uribe, Commissioner Gomez Codero, Commissioner Bonilla, and Commissioner Siplin.
