Founder of County’s First Hispanic Women’s Business Association Goes Extra Mile to Mentor Others
James’ community involvement started decades ago. She organized the first Hispanic women’s business organization in Orange County 40 years ago and was the first to identify the need for such a group to advance the interests of Hispanic business women in the region. Orange County opens to proposals to salvage from Sanford Burnham center
Jacobs harshly questioned Florida Hospital over having developed at least the beginnings of its proposal in long-term private talks with Sanford Burnham that left the county and other public stakeholders literally locked out. Commissioner Emily Bonilla later said that she already prefers the UCF proposal, and she believes other commissioners do too.
Orange County plans to limit airboats on St. Johns ramp
As many as seven independent airboat operators have used the ramp, some of them for decades, often warily co-existing with Airboat Rides at Midway across the highway. Independent owners have said they’re worried they could be put out of business if the county went out to bid for permits, while Midway owner Derrick Lockhart said rival boats were operating without oversight. Commissioner Emily Bonilla said she would prefer expanding the limit at S.R. 50 to five boat operators to make sure there was some level of competition.
