Hurricane Dorian Preparations

While the track of Hurricane Dorian seems to be moving further east, life-threatening storm surges are still possible along the Florida eastern coast. This also may include parts of Eastern Orange County District 5, such as Bithlo, Christmas and Wedgefield. Please, be prepared and take shelter if you live in a mobile home or feel that your home will not be safe to ride out the hurricane. The closest shelter is East River High School, which will allow pets. Unless there is a change, THE SHELTER WILL OPEN SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 1st at 8:00a.m. Make sure to bring food, water, pillow and blanket.

Orange County Commissioner Emily Bonilla held a summit Monday morning to address continuing issues in helping Puerto Rican evacuees and to corral nonprofit organizations, hoping to get them all on one page to pool resources. “We’ve been having these issues a long time and so we do need some strong leadership to start solving theses issues,” Bonilla said.

Bat House Workshop in Wedgefield

District 5 Citizen of the Year Award 2018

Pastor Baxter’s motto is “Here at Bithlo we are developers of Hearts of Compassion and Hearts of Gratitude, as we serve each other and the greater community.” His service to the Bithlo Community has been recognized by the University of Central Florida, Florida Hospital, Second Harvest, Faith Assembly, and local students at Orange County Public Schools where he has served as a substitute teacher. National Police Week

In honor of National Police week, which was this month, the District 5 office is featuring a special law enforcement officer who has worked diligently to serve our community: Deputy Jessi Alicea has worked for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for 2 1/2 years now. She chose to pursue a career in law enforcement to help people on their worst days and be a problem solver. She has always been interested in the investigative side of police work.
