My tour today included the fire stations at Christmas and Wedgefield to check status of community needs, and South Bithlo at United Global Outreach with Tim McKinney (who was providing hot food!), and taking Mayor Jacobs to spots that I found flooded yesterday off of Alafaya and near Union Park.

Split Oak Forest portion of the Florida National Scenic Trail is now open! The Florida National Scenic Trail’s route includes travel through multiple natural jewels we have here in Orange County, such as the Hal Scott Preserve, Pine Lily Preserve, Savage/Christmas Creek Preserve, Seminole Ranch Conservation Area, Orlando Wetlands, before it exits our County through the Charles H. Bronson State Forest.

Goats & Ghouls Farm Tour

We are celebrating agriculture this week as we mosey towards our Farm Tour event, Goats and Ghouls. Did you know that agricultural practices started as late as 10,000 years ago? People gathered wild grains and planted them for food crops. They also captured wild pigs, sheep and cows and bred them to become domesticated. You heard it straight from the horse’s mouth! Orlando advocates call out affordable housing crisis in Central Florida

“Rick Scott likes to talk about Florida’s economy when he’s on the campaign trail,” says Orange County Commissioner Emily Bonilla. “But the reality is that nearly half of Floridians qualify as working poor. … Instead of doing something to help low-income families find safe, clean and affordable housing, Rick Scott and the Republican leadership in Tallahassee have taken the money and swept it into the general budget to cover for their own poor accounting skills.”
