Spilt Oak Forest and Wildlife Environmental Area and the Osceola Parkway Extension Update

In the April 9 Board of County Commissioners meeting, I continued my role in advocating for the preservation of Split Oak, a 1684-acre natural habitat critical for wildlife linkage and water resource protection. I highlighted the community’s overwhelming support for the charter amendment protecting Split Oak, with 86% of voters in favor. During discussions on the Central Florida Expressway’s involvement and land donation conditions, I emphasized the need for transparency and a thorough staff report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. My proactive stance aimed to ensure that Orange County’s interests were protected amidst evolving territorial activities and annexation discussions, fostering clarity and strategic decision-making for the county’s environmental stewardship.

Update on Transportation Sales Tax Initiative

During the April 9 Board of County Commissioners meeting, I played a crucial role in scrutinizing the Transportation Sales Tax (TST) Initiative, focusing on fiscal feasibility policies, impact fee implications, and the potential shift of costs from developers to taxpayers. I raised pertinent questions about the use of TST funds for bus procurement, impact fee adjustments, and the relationship between TST funds and infrastructure improvements. My inquiries also delved into the alignment of the TST with Vision 2050 and the potential ramifications of rezoning on negotiating power and cost distribution. Additionally, I highlighted concerns about housing units, the school tax ballot, and the need for a comprehensive discussion on these policy implications in upcoming work sessions. I encourage everyone to stay engaged and informed as we navigate these complex issues affecting Orange County’s future.

Update on Vision 2050 and Orange Code
During the April 9 Board of County Commissioners meeting, I actively engaged in discussions regarding the Orange Code and Vision 2050 update from the Planning Division. I sought clarification on the relation of the LPN amendment to the broader update and emphasized the importance of fiscal sustainability analysis in understanding the impacts of Vision 2050. I advocated for thorough coordination within departments to ensure that the analysis considers all aspects, including service expansion and allocation post-rezoning. Additionally, I proposed proactive measures like mailers to inform residents about the rezoning map, particularly highlighting pedestrian-centric infrastructure like sidewalks. My contributions aimed to ensure transparency, comprehensive planning, and community engagement throughout the update process

Lake Pickett Study Area Policy Amendments
In my recent efforts, I’ve delved into researching and compiling information crucial for updating the Lake Pickett Study Area Policy Amendments. These proposed changes aim to ensure that only parcels with vested rights or specific entitlements are included within the study area, aligning development with responsible and sustainable growth goals. I’ll be presenting my findings to the Board of County Commissioners on April 23 and encourage everyone to stay tuned to this meeting or consider attending to share their insights and comments. It’s vital that we work together to uphold our commitment to smart growth and community values while safeguarding against unintended loopholes in our comprehensive plan.

Case Closed!

No Trespassing - Private property, violators will be prosecuted.

The constituent’s case involved addressing a nuisance homeless camp that had moved to the back of a landowner’s property along Pine Creek, creating safety and environmental concerns. Upon receiving the constituent’s request for assistance, our office immediately contacted the Community and Family Services Division, who deployed their outreach team to assess the situation. Despite challenges in engaging with the individuals at the camp due to drug activity and safety concerns, continuous efforts were made to monitor the area. Additionally, our office reached out to the Sheriff’s Office to address trespassing issues and suggested fencing off the area to prevent further access. Ultimately, with the combined efforts of community engagement and government intervention, the homeless camp on Discovery Point property was successfully taken down and removed, leading to a positive resolution appreciated by the community.

CASE CLOSED!
