October 8, 2019, BCC Meeting

BCC Meeting Agenda

See the e-agenda of the next Board of County Commissioner’s (BCC) Meeting. The e-agenda for each BCC meeting is usually available online on the Thursday before the meeting.

Below is a summary of upcoming agenda items pertaining to District 5 and/or County-wide. Click on the numbered links to be sent to the Comptroller’s website for more information on the item, along with attachments of more documentation.

This meet will start at 9 AM for the morning session and 2 PM for the afternoon session. The day has a couple of exciting things going on.

We may be approving speed humps in a community that has been trying for a while to get their neighbors to agree on speed calming and safety solutions. I made the decision easy for them by enticing them to get the speed humps if they raise half the money, I will provide the other half from my district’s CIP funds. The people who will have the speed humps in front of their houses were not happy, but it had to be done for the safety of the children and pedestrians in the area. I don’t like these types of compromises but sometimes it is unavoidable. I prefer when everyone finds something agreeable.

We are getting federal grants that will result in an increase to the Orange County Fire Rescue Department staffing table by an additional 63 firefighters. For the football fans, we will have the NFL ProBowl for 2020 and 2021. We have another task to complete for the AdventHealth Waterford Lakes ER I was so honored to have helped inspire!

A portion of State Road 535 between State Road 526 in Orange County and the Osceola County Line will be recognized as the “Robert L. ‘Bob’ Billingslea Highway” with special signage. “Loved ones remember Bob as someone who made a difference in the community, pushing for social change, during his 42 years at Disney.”

We will provide a resolution regarding formal recognition of Central Florida’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning/Queer+ Community’s importance to the local economy.

Regarding land use cases, we have a couple of cases for district 5 in the Planning and Zoning Commission Recommendations.

As always, we do have time before the meeting starts for Public Comment and for Public Hearings there is also an opportunity to speak. Please arrive at 8:30 AM to sign up to talk before the morning session. The meeting takes place at 201 South Rosalind Ave., Orlando, FL 32801.
