I’m a resident of the Sunshine Gardens neighborhood in Orlando. We’re located about a mile north of College Park, and we’re in the early stages of developing a neighborhood committee with the goal of bettering our community.
As you may be aware, the (former) Parragon School located at the corner of Adanson and Carew Ave went out of business during the pandemic. The building currently sits empty which is a sad sight for those of us in the area. Without knowledge of the necessary logistics and processes, we couldn’t help but imagine how this space would make the perfect community center to help connect local residents and bring some life back to the area. We’d also be interested in enhancing the space to include a pool, tennis court, etc for community activities.
My question to you is, what would be our first step in exploring the potential for this blue-sky idea? How are community centers typically funded?
